Our support group programmes include psycho-social counselling , care and support of people living with HIV/AIDS as well as victim empowerment for abused women and children. These support group programmes are done on a weekly basis at the Hospice Iqraa Centre in Alabama by Sister Zahira Jones (Secretary of IMASA Klerksdorp Branch).
We do coordinating skills activities like hand and eye coordinating activities, educational activities: like coloring, painting etc. with the small children, as they are not attending school. The support group helps the individuals feel safe, supported, and understood; in addition we supply them with information and skills to help them cope. As from day one this group has been very cooperative, but they have some emotional stigma they carry with them daily due to their infection with HIV. However outwardly they seem to be smiling and be content, but the individual counselling brings out some sad depths within these individuals.
