IMASA / SANZAF Bursary Fund Project

The Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) and SANZAF (South African National Zakaah Fund) are proud to be partnering in an aim to strengthen healthcare delivery in South Africa by offering bursaries to underprivileged students.

“There is a dire shortage of health care professionals in South Africa, especially in the nursing fraternity. Unfortunately there are many students with both the commitment and ability to undertake studies in these areas but do not have the means to pursue a career in healthcare.” says IMASA president Dr Shoyab Wadee.

IMASA and SANZAF will fill this gap by providing financial assistance to deserving students who want to pursue a career in any of the medical or allied health sciences. The aim of the project is to encourage students to make a difference in the societies from which they come by empowering them with education and skills to improve healthcare delivery. All applicants will follow the SANZAF’s comprehensive screening process of eligibility for Zakaat.

According to SANZAF’s Director, Mr Hoosen Essof, “SANZAF was looking to broaden their reach of bursary offering and hence, were very eager to join hands with IMASA in this respect. The objectives of the agreement are to identify students who are financially needy, yet academically suitable for a career in health sciences. We will support historically disadvantaged South African students as per the BBBEE codes.”
