The volunteers and committee members from the IMASA Johannesburg & East Rand Branch united in their efforts towards the Nelson Mandela Day Campaign, whereby visiting an Old Age Home and Orphanage in Nigel on the 31st July 2016.
With the kindness and generosity of so many donors and volunteers we were able to provide a variety of activities, gifts and donations on this day. On arrival, we were overwhelmed with the reception from our hosts who were obviously very excited to spend quality time with us and we were truly humbled by their hospitality and thoroughly enjoyed the company of many wise and youthful personalities.
IMASA Health Professionals provided medical screening and further consultation with cases of concern whilst our student volunteers occupied the children with games, cupcake decorations and a hand print artwork to remember our visit to their home. We included some pampering sessions with hand massages, a tea table with a variety of goodies and ending the day with a delicious Sunday meal for +- 200 people, which included the residents and the volunteers. The younger volunteers ranging from as young as 5yrs old to 18 yrs were honoured with the task of personally handing over a gift from IMASA to each of the elders and orphans as a token of our sincere appreciation for allowing us the opportunity to spend this time with them.
