The Islamic Medical Association (IMASA) once again partnered with VOC radio station at the annual Pink Hijaab Day. This year it was held at Moerat events in Schaapkraal. Breast Cancer was highlighted by informative talks and an interactive panel discussion. Questions from the audience were answered by a group of experts including Sister Galima Fish and Dr F Yasin. The IMASA group of volunteers performed manual breast examinations. Alhamdullilah 109 women were screened. Of these, abnormalities were detected in 6 women. They were referred to Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) for further investigations.
Women were also referred for screening mammograms either to GSH or their General Practitioners. It was very reassuring to find that many more women were informed of their risks. However, for a large proportion, this was still their first screening encounter.
