Our Annual “Free Medical Screening & Health Awareness Day” offered to the community of Lenasia took place on Sunday – 10th April 2016 with a total of 547 peopled screened from 09h00 – 15h00. This programme has been successfully facilitated over the past 5 years and the affiliation between the various organizations involved and sponsors has proven to be mutually beneficial and grows stronger each year Alhumdulillah.
Each year the participation of Medical Volunteers [qualified], Medical Students [MSA] and General Volunteers increases and their eagerness and dedication to volunteer if not whole day then at least a few hours of the day was truly admirable. We thank one and all for their commitment, sacrifices and good wishes. Usually before the screening commences all the volunteers are briefed with the procedures to follow throughout the day and each volunteer signs in, which confirms their attendance.
The following screening was offered: Weight, Height, BMI calculations and Peak expiratory flow screening, Blood Pressure Testing, Glucose Testing & Cholesterol Testing, Eye screening, In addition to this, various specialists offered their expertise by consulting with patients who made appointments during their times of availability Eg: Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Speech & Audiology, Dental Screening
Including consultations with Dermatologists, a Gyneacologist, a Cardiologist, Heart Rhythm screening by Arrhythmia Alliance and information offered from representatives of the Stroke Foundation.
We would also like to thank “Helping Hands” who donated the food to patients after they completed the screening process and our special Guest Speakers who addressed the patients in the waiting tent elaborating on General Health Topics.
MAP conducted HIV / AIDS Testing / Counselling & TB Screening. Number of people tested: HIV tested -61 / Females- 25 / Males-36 / TB screened- 61 / Reactive – 1 Male positive
At the end of the screening process patients are able to consult with senior doctors who would advise them re: the outcome of their tests and refer them to the nearest clinic, private doctor or specialist if need be.
